3 Shocking Truths About the Chinese Truck Market in 2025

2025-06-20 8 min read

The Chinese truck market in 2025 isn’t only growing, it’s changing fast in ways that many didn’t expect. You might have heard about electric trucks and local brands becoming more popular. Whether you run a delivery business, or manage a fleet these changes could affect what you buy, and how you work.

Why Truck Prices Are Dropping

Since the start of 2025, truck prices in China have been falling fast. Factories built too many trucks last year, almost 1 million of them. But few people only buy. That means there are too many products, so companies are lowering prices to sell them. Another reason is fuel.Trucks that run on gas like LNG or CNG are cheaper to operate now. In some places, LNG is less than ¥5 per kilo. Because of this, some people want diesel trucks, so diesel prices are going down too.

Electric trucks are also changing how things work. Big brands like Shaanxi, FAW, and Sinotruk have dropped electric truck prices by up to ¥200,000 this year. One Shaanxi model went from ¥600,000 to under ¥400,000 in a few months.

Big companies like BYD and SAIC are telling their parts suppliers to lessen it by 10% so they can keep prices low. At the same time, dealers are stuck with too many unsold trucks. They want factories to stop making more, but it wasn't happened yet.So why are prices dropping? Too many trucks, cheaper fuel types, more electric models, and pressure on suppliers. If you’re buying a truck, it’s a good time to shop around and bargain. Prices probably won’t go up again soon.

Secret Trucks You Can Buy for Less

Everyone talks about big brands lowering prices, but the real deals are often hidden. Some sellers still have trucks from last year or have the same model. They're trying to clear out old stock, so they’ll sell them for less.

Take trucks like HOWO or Shacman, used on job sites. One person shared that they found these trucks for around ¥3.2 million. And as you can see it is almost half the price of similar Japanese trucks. They may not look expensive, but they’re strong and easy to fix. So the dealers want to sell them fast.

There are also small trucks and vans, like DFSK or Chang’an pickups. These were made in big numbers but not advertised. A DFSK cargo van from last year might now go for ¥60,000 to ¥80,000, but you have to make an effort to find that model and price.

Even electric pickups like the Radar Rd6 or Changan Hunter are sometimes kept in storage. Dealers want to sell them quickly, so they may offer some discounts.

To find these hidden deals, visit small or local dealers, they’re usually more flexible. Ask if they have last year’s models or demo units. Also, check online marketplaces or truck forums. For example, a buyer found a brand-new Maxus for a low price by searching it. These hidden trucks may not be new releases, but they’re ready to go and save you money in the long run.

What Big Dealers Don’t Tell You

When you visit a large dealership in China, it all looks smooth and professional. They highlight the best trucks and tell you about payment plans. But some things they wouldn't tell you in order for you to save your money, so you should asks questions.

For example, many dealers still have old diesel trucks from late 2023 or early 2024. These are harder to sell now because people want gas or electric trucks. Instead of offering a discount, dealers often try to push you to buy the newest model. But if you ask about older stock or trucks in the warehouse, they might offer a better price.

Also, don’t be afraid to negotiate. Big dealers get special bonuses from manufacturers, but they won’t offer those unless you ask. One buyer from Anhui said they saved ¥25,000 on a Jiefang truck by showing a lower offer from another city.

Some dealers add extra charges for features like GPS, cold weather kits, or stronger axles. Even if those are already included in some models. So be careful, as they might try to make you pay twice amount. Always check the truck’s official spec sheet or bring someone who knows what to look for.

And finally, watch out for loan hidden fees. Dealer will recommend a financing can include big payments later on. Sometimes, you can get a better deal from a rural bank or through an app. So don’t just accept the first offer.

Before you buy, do your thing. Ask clear questions, look at the full stock list, and don't make a deal if you noticed that there is unusual thing. Sellers may not give you the best deal right away. But they might call you back with something better if they know you’re serious.
